Audio Slideshow Tutorial

Last year at the convention, I went to this workshop called Flash for Print Journalists, where I learned how to make audio slideshows.

I really like audio slideshows. I produced two of them for this week’s issue of Seven Days (Up Against the Walls, and Talkin’ Tags).

This recent burst of productivity inspired me to spend some time today making this slideshow tutorial. All told, I probably spent 2-3 hours on it, though a bunch of that time I was just collecting material.

If you’ve never done an audio slideshow before, this 4-minute slideshow will give you the info you need to get started. I hope you have as much fun watching and using it as I had making it!

I should note that I was inspired to do this by my friend Jessamyn, who made a YouTube video of herself installing open source operating system Ubuntu on some rural Vermont library computers.

Pilotless Drone! [Reader Feedback Podcast]

Here’s an example of a newspaper using a podcast to present reader feedback. Yes, it’s from the San Francisco Chronicle, not a weekly, but it’s worth checking out.

Here it is, all you ever wanted to know about the pilotless drone.

UPDATE: Sadly, the link was incorrect in my original post. It was sending people to the very clever MySpace page for Nancy Reagan’s Decorator. I just fixed it.
